Tactical FPS Games With Real Communities Right Now
A tactical shooter without an active, organized community is just a singleplayer game. Population numbers lie — the question is whether you can find a mic'd squad inside 5 minutes on a Tuesday night. Here's the real list.
Filtered by 'can I find a mic'd squad tonight?'
Not by Steam concurrency. Population means nothing if it's all randoms.
Updated quarterly
Tactical-shooter communities rise and fall fast. We re-check this list every 90 days based on what's actually filling on TGH.
Every game here has a TGH home channel
Drop into any channel, lurk, get pinged into a stack within an hour most weeknights.
Currently-active communities (May 2026)
Ready or Not — Largest organized CQB community right now. Multiple comms-required Discords; TGH is one.
Squad — Strong, well-organized, squad-lead culture. Active comms-required clans dominant.
Hell Let Loose — Smaller than peak but stable. WW2 enthusiast crowd, very organized.
Arma Reforger — Growing fast since 1.x. Good mil-sim units actively recruiting.
Ground Branch — Small but loyal. Population-limited, so use a community to find lobbies.
Helldivers 2 — Massive casual base, but the organized squad layer is real if you find the right server.
RedSec (BF6) — New and active. Tactical layer surprising for a Battlefield mode.
Popular but mostly random/no-comms
Most CoD modes outside RedSec. Most BR matchmaking. Most Apex. These have huge populations but the organized comms-required layer is small or buried. You can play them with friends; you can't reliably find mic'd squads on a Tuesday.
How TGH solves the population problem
We pool members across all of the above. If your main game has a slow night, the same people are 2 channels over running something else with mics. The community is the constant; the game on screen rotates.
Common questions
Easiest game to find a mic'd squad in tonight?
Ready or Not on TGH — almost always a stack forming or one short. Squad is also extremely reliable.
Hardest game on this list to find a mic'd squad in?
Ground Branch — population is small, so coordinating through a community is basically required.
