Milsim vs Speedsoft — Pick Your Pace

Both are airsoft. They're almost different sports. Knowing which one you actually want decides what you buy, who you play with, and whether sim time helps you at all.

Speedsoft = arcade

Short games, hi-cap mags, indoor or small field, fast respawns, gun handling and movement do most of the work.

Milsim = patrol

Long ops, real-cap or mid-cap, role assignments, comms net, sleep plans, OPFOR with the same rules. Decisions do most of the work.

Sim helps milsim more

The decision layer transfers. The trigger-spam layer doesn't. Speedsoft players gain less from sim time — and that's fine.

Honest comparison

Pacing: speedsoft is sub-2-minute engagements; milsim ops can have 4-hour halts.

Gear: speedsoft uses light loadouts and racing PCs; milsim leans chest rigs or fully loaded PCs depending on role.

Skill ceiling: speedsoft caps at gun handling and reaction; milsim caps at squad/platoon decision-making.

Social: speedsoft is closer to a pickup basketball game; milsim is closer to a unit reunion.

Cost per game: speedsoft is cheap per session, expensive in BBs and gas; milsim ops cost more upfront but you play one weekend not 30.

Where TGH fits

Sim time is high-leverage for milsim-leaning players because the decisions transfer. For speedsoft players, sim time helps marginally with situational awareness and target ID, but the trigger reflex is faster on a field. Pick honestly — don't drill milsim if you actually want speedsoft.

Common questions

Can I do both?

Plenty of people do. Most milsim regulars also play one or two speedsoft fields a year for the cardio and reaction reps.

Which sim crowd do you cater to?

Milsim-leaning. Our bridge channel is built around squad-level decision drilling, not 1v1 reflex training.
