Airsoft Loadout — Build by Role, Not by Aesthetic
The fastest way to waste money in airsoft is buying gear before you know your role. The fastest way to know your role is playing it — and the cheapest place to figure that out is in a milsim-style sim where you can rotate roles in a single night.
Role first, gear second
Rifleman, AR, grenadier, RTO, medic, squad lead — each has a different mag count, hydration need, and pouch layout. Pick the role you actually play before the credit card.
Try roles in a sim first
TGH milsim-bridge nights let you run AR one night, RTO the next. By the time you spend on real gear, you know what you actually want.
Skip the patches
Nobody good cares. Spend the patch budget on a better radio, better hydration, and a chest rig that actually fits.
By role
Rifleman: 4–6 mid-cap mags, IFAK, hydration (1L min), dump pouch, radio. The default. Run this first.
Automatic rifleman (AR/SAW): 1 box mag or 2–3 high-caps depending on field rules, sturdier sling, more water. Carries the squad's volume of fire.
Grenadier: rifleman loadout plus a 40mm or M203 shell pouch. Knows when not to use it (most of the time).
RTO: rifleman loadout plus a real radio, antenna routing, and the most important job — keeping the comms picture clean.
Medic: 2 IFAKs minimum, extra water, fewer mags. Runs to people, not at them.
Squad lead: lighter on ammo, heavier on map/notebook/radio. Eyes up, not down a sight.
What people overspend on
Plate carriers before they know if they want chest rigs. Replicas of high-end rails before they've shot 10 games. Patches. NVGs before they've ever played a night op. None of these make you better. The thing that makes you better is reps in the role.
What sim time saves you
If you spend two months on TGH milsim-bridge nights cycling through roles, you walk into the airsoft store knowing you want a chest rig (not a PC), a 5-pouch front (not a 3+placard), and a dump pouch big enough for your specific mag. That's $300–$600 of regret avoided.

We don't push brands. The Discord has channels where members share what's worked at MilSim West, Lion Claws, and weekend ops — vendor-agnostic.
Can I do this without ever playing real airsoft?
Yes. About a quarter of the bridge channel is sim-only and just likes the milsim aesthetic and pacing.
