Team Composition Guide: Build a Balanced Squad

Stacking fraggers doesn't work. Here's how to build a team comp with roles that complement each other across any tactical shooter.

Five entry fraggers is not a team — it's a highlight reel that loses. Real squads win because every player fills a role that makes the whole team stronger. Whether you play Valorant, Siege, or Warzone, the principles of team composition are universal.

The Four Core Roles

Every balanced team needs: 1) Entry/Fragger — first in, takes opening duels. 2) Support — trades kills, provides utility. 3) IGL/Shotcaller — reads the game, makes calls (see our shotcalling guide). 4) Anchor/Lurk — holds flanks, provides map control. A fifth player can flex between support and entry depending on the situation.

Why Role Balance Matters

If everyone wants to entry, nobody's watching the flank. If everyone plays passive, you run out of time. Role balance creates coverage — your team has answers for every situation without needing to improvise. Our squad roles deep dive covers each role in detail.

Building Around Playstyles

Don't force someone into a role they hate. Take our Operator Quiz to identify each player's natural playstyle, then assign roles accordingly. Aggressive players entry. Methodical players anchor. Big-brain players IGL. Play to your strengths and let the composition handle the rest.

Adapting Mid-Game

Good team comps aren't static. If your entry fragger is struggling, swap roles for a few rounds. If the enemy is exploiting your flank, add a second anchor. The best teams adapt their composition based on what the opponent is doing.

Finding Your Balanced Squad

If you're solo queuing, you can't control comp — but you can fill gaps. Be the player who adapts. And if you want a permanent squad with defined roles, find teammates through TGH who play complementary styles.
