Squad Roles Explained: Entry, Support, IGL & More

Every great squad has defined roles. Learn what each role does, which one fits you, and how to play it effectively.

Random squads play like 4 solo players in the same channel. Organized squads assign roles, play to strengths, and execute as a unit. Here's the role framework used by TGH squads across every game. Need a squad? Find teammates here.

IGL (In-Game Leader)

The shot-caller. Decides when to push, when to rotate, when to play passive. The IGL doesn't need the best aim — they need the best game sense and the ability to make fast decisions under pressure. If your IGL says 'push,' everyone pushes. Hesitation kills squads. Strong map awareness is essential for IGLs.

Entry Fragger

First through the door. The entry fragger's job is to create space and get the first pick or at minimum trade information. This role requires aggressive aim, fast reaction time, and the willingness to die for info. If you entry and die but call out 3 enemy positions, you did your job. A solid warm-up routine is critical for entries.

Support

The utility player. Support throws flashes, smokes, heals — whatever the team needs. They're the second player through the door, the one who trades the entry fragger's kill, and the person keeping the squad alive. A great support makes every other role perform better.

Anchor / Flex

Holds the flank, watches the back door, covers the rotation. The anchor doesn't chase kills — they prevent the enemy from catching the squad off guard. In Battle Royales, the anchor watches the back while the squad pushes forward. In Siege, they hold site while the roamers create chaos. Good audio awareness makes anchors incredibly effective.

Finding Your Role

Play all four roles in casual games and notice which one feels natural. If you're calm under pressure and read the game well — IGL. If you want to be first in every fight — entry.
