How to Warm Up for Ranked: A 10-Minute Pre-Game Routine
Stop jumping into ranked cold. This structured 10-minute warm-up routine gets your aim, movement, and game sense ready.
Jumping straight into ranked without warming up is like sprinting without stretching — you'll underperform and might hurt yourself (or at least your rank). A focused 10-minute warm-up primes your reflexes, calibrates your aim, and puts you in the right mental state. Here's the routine used by TGH members who consistently climb. Also check our full warm-up guide for extended routines.
Minutes 1-3: Aim Trainer
Open Aim Lab or Kovaak's. Do 1 minute of tracking (follow a moving target smoothly), 1 minute of flicking (snap to static targets), and 1 minute of switching (alternate between two targets). Don't try for high scores — focus on smooth, controlled movements. This wakes up your hand-eye coordination.
Minutes 4-6: Movement Practice
Load into your game's practice range or a casual match. Spend 3 minutes focusing purely on movement: slide-canceling, strafing, crouch-spamming, jump peeking. Don't worry about kills — you're getting your fingers warm on game-specific inputs. Movement fluency is half of winning gunfights.
Minutes 7-9: Deathmatch or Casual
Play one quick deathmatch or casual round. Focus on your crosshair placement — keep it at head level, pre-aim common angles. This bridges the gap between mechanical practice and real game scenarios. If your mouse settings feel off, this is when you'll notice.
Minute 10: Mental Reset
Take 60 seconds to breathe and set intentions. Remind yourself: 'I'm here to improve, not to protect my rank.' Visualize a scenario where you stay calm after dying. This mental primer is the most overlooked part of warming up, but it's what separates players who handle ranked anxiety from those who tilt.
Make It a Habit
Do this before every ranked session for two weeks and it becomes automatic. Your first game will feel like your third game — warmed up, confident, and ready. Track your first-game performance before and after adopting this routine; the difference is measurable. Join TGH squads who warm up together before sessions.
