5 Comms Mistakes Killing Your Squad

You're calling out, but your team still dies. These 5 comms habits are the reason — and here's how to fix them.

You think you're communicating well, but your squad keeps getting wiped. Sound familiar? The problem isn't your aim — it's your comms. Here are the 5 most common mistakes we see in TGH coaching sessions. For a deeper dive on comms tools, read Best Comms Apps for Gaming.

Mistake #1: Vague Callouts

'He's over there' tells your team nothing. Use compass bearings, distance, and elevation. '230, 150 meters, second floor' — that's a callout your team can act on instantly.

Mistake #2: Talking During Firefights

When shots are flying, keep comms to essential info only. Enemy positions, heals needed, flanks spotted. Save the play-by-play for after the fight.

Mistake #3: Not Calling Rotations

If you're moving, your team needs to know. 'Rotating north to gas station' keeps everyone on the same page. Silent rotations get you killed — or worse, get your teammates killed because they expected you to hold. Understanding map control makes this even more critical.

Mistake #4: Panic Flooding

When you get downed, the instinct is to scream everything you see. Instead: one calm callout. Enemy count, direction, what they're doing. Then go silent and let your team work. Our guide on staying sharp under pressure covers the mental side of this.

Mistake #5: No Pre-Round Planning

Before you drop, before you push a building, before you rotate — call the plan. 'We're pushing left side, I'll flash, you hold right angle.' Three seconds of planning saves three respawn tokens. This is where having a dedicated IGL makes all the difference.
